In order to resist the air resistance, it will undoubtedly increase the load of the engine. The faster the speed, the greater the resistance, the greater the load of the engine affected by the air resistance. The consequence of the increase of the load is the increase of fuel consumption. In addition, a number of spoilers have been added to reduce the air resistance of the frame and rear compartment, so what devices are designed to reduce the wind resistance on the truck?


1. Roof/side guide plate

The roof and side guide plate are mainly to prevent the wind from directly impacting the square box, and most of the air is guided away so that it passes smoothly through the upper and side of the car, rather than directly impacting the front of the car to bring great resistance. Set the Angle of the correct, reasonable height of the guide plate can greatly reduce the resistance brought by the carriage.


2. Side skirts

Let the side of the frame become flat and integrated with the carriage, the side of the gas tank, tank, etc., wrapped up, reduce the windward area of these devices, so that the air can pass smoothly without turbulence.


3. Low bumper

The bumpers, which extend downwards, reduce the flow of air under the car and help reduce the drag caused by the friction between the chassis and the air. And part of the bumper with a diversion hole in reducing the wind resistance can also help the air flow to the brake drum or brake disc, help the vehicle brake system to dissipate heat.


4. Guide plate on container side

The fender on the side of the container covers part of the wheel and reduces the distance between the car and the ground, reducing the airflow from the side into the bottom of the car, because it covers part of the wheel, and also reduces the turbulence caused by the contact between the tire and the air.


As early as 1955, Europe began to use FRP on cars, once in STM-Ⅱ body trial FRP version, in 1970, Japan with FRP manufacturing car wheel decoration cover, 1971 Suzuki with FRP manufacturing engine cover, wing plate, Britain in the 1950s began to use FRP, replacing the previous steel-wood mixed cab. For example, the S21 on Foden at that time, three-wheeled cars, etc., the overall style of the model at that time also took on a new look and was no longer rigid.


Some domestic manufacturers in the development of FRP body has also done a lot of work, a long time ago FAW successfully developed FRP engine cover, and flat head convertible cab. At present, the application of FRP products in domestic medium and heavy trucks can be said to be very extensive, such as some long head engine cover, bumper, front mask, cab top cover, side skirt plate, guide cover.


Because the FRP material has the characteristics of less investment, short production cycle and strong designability, it is widely used in many places on trucks. For example, earlier years ago, the domestic truck shape is single, rigid, personalized appearance shape is not common, with the rapid development of domestic expressways, greatly stimulate the development of long-distance transportation, but because of the cab personalized appearance of the overall steel molding design is difficult, mold design cost is high, if multiple plates of tailor-welded later and prone to corrosion leakage and other conditions. So FRP cab top cover has become the choice of many manufacturers.


FRP material has the characteristics of light weight and high strength, and its density is low between 1.5 and 2.0. Only 1/4 to 1/5 of carbon steel, even lower than aluminum. Compared to 08F steel, the strength of 2.5mm thick FRP is comparable to that of 1mm thick steel. In addition, FRP can be designed according to the demand, flexible product structure, the use of products has a better overall type, excellent technology, according to the shape of the product, the use and the number of flexible selection of molding process, and the molding process is simple, can be formed at a time, good corrosion resistance, to the atmosphere, water and general concentration of acid and alkali salts have good resistance. So at present, the front bumper, front mask, skirt plate and guide cover of many trucks are made of FRP material.
