Working Principle of Reverse Osmosis Membrane

Reverse Osmosis(RO) technology is a liquid membrane separation and filtration technology that utilizes pressure as the driving force.

RO MBR (winding type aromatic polyamide composite membrane) is a thin film with semi permeable properties made using special materials and processing methods. It can selectively penetrate a certain component in the solution under external pressure, thereby achieving purification, purification, or concentration separation. Filtering accuracy of 0.1-1 nanometers. Block all soluble salt ions and organic compounds with a molecular weight greater than 100.

When the same volume of dilute solution and concentrated solution are placed on both sides of the container, separated by a semi permeable membrane in the middle, the solvent in the dilute solution will naturally pass through the semi permeable membrane and flow towards the concentrated solution side. The liquid level on the concentrated solution side will be higher than the liquid level of the dilute solution by a certain height, forming a pressure difference and reaching the osmotic equilibrium state. This pressure difference is called osmotic pressure.

If a pressure greater than osmotic pressure is applied on the concentrated solution side, the solvent in the concentrated solution will flow towards the dilute solution, that is, the direction of solvent flow is opposite to the original direction of permeation. This process is called Reverse Osmosis.
